Psalms 101
Reading Time: Less than one minute Listen
I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O Lord, will I sing.
2 I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.
3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
4 A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.
5 Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.
6 Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.
7 He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.
8 I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the Lord.

Psalm 101:1-8
I Will Walk with Integrity
A Psalm of David.
1I will sing of steadfast love and justice;
to you, O Lord, I will make music.
2I will ponder the way that is blameless.
Oh when will you come to me?
I will walk with integrity of heart
within my house;
3I will not set before my eyes
anything that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who fall away;
it shall not cling to me.
4A perverse heart shall be far from me;
I will know nothing of evil.
5Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly
I will destroy.
Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart
I will not endure.
6I will look with favor on the faithful in the land,
that they may dwell with me;
he who walks in the way that is blameless
shall minister to me.
7No one who practices deceit
shall dwell in my house;
no one who utters lies
shall continue before my eyes.
8Morning by morning I will destroy
all the wicked in the land,
cutting off all the evildoers
from the city of the Lord.

Psalm 101:1-8
Psalm 101
Of David. A psalm.
1I will sing of your love and justice;
to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
2I will be careful to lead a blameless life—
when will you come to me?
I will conduct the affairs of my house
with a blameless heart.
3I will not look with approval
on anything that is vile.
I hate what faithless people do;
I will have no part in it.
4The perverse of heart shall be far from me;
I will have nothing to do with what is evil.
5Whoever slanders their neighbor in secret,
I will put to silence;
whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart,
I will not tolerate.
6My eyes will be on the faithful in the land,
that they may dwell with me;
the one whose walk is blameless
will minister to me.
7No one who practices deceit
will dwell in my house;
no one who speaks falsely
will stand in my presence.
8Every morning I will put to silence
all the wicked in the land;
I will cut off every evildoer
from the city of the Lord.

Commentary
David is singing his theme song of loyalty to a just God. He desired to be blameless, with a pure heart, before God.
Of what does our heart consist? Our thoughts are created from sensory information we feed our mind. Our heart is shaped by our thoughts and how we spend our time. How many times have I heard a song that I can’t get out of my head the rest of the day? It’s uplifting to have a calming hymn or encouraging Scripture song on repeat in my mind throughout the day.
How important to carefully guard what we allow our senses to take in. Just imagine if Jesus were sitting there with you, would you feel comfortable watching that show, reading that book, or listening to that song? If you find wholesome material boring, ask the Holy Spirit to reshape your preferences. We need a Heavenly Physician to purify us. “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.” Psalms 139:23. Our minds need rewiring to repair the damage from living in a sin- loving world. We need a new character that comes from having a new mind in Christ Jesus.
