Psalms 47
Reading Time: Less than one minute Listen
O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.
2 For the Lord most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.
3 He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.
4 He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.
5 God is gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
8 God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.
9 The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted.

the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah

the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.

Commentary
Does Psalm 47 seem familiar to you? It does to me! I remember as a young girl in Sabbath School singing a song that was based on this Bible chapter. The chorus went like this:
Clap your hands all you people
Shout unto God with a voice of triumph
Clap your hands all you people
Shout unto God with a voice of praise
Hosanna hosanna
Shout unto God with a voice of triumph
Praise Him, praise Him
Shout unto God with a voice of praise!
Do you recognize it? What a glorious song to sing, to remind ourselves of our mighty and wonderful God! So many things He does for us, and gifts He gives us every single day! All those things we forget about and take for granted--like air to breath, and a heart that keeps beating without our even needing to think about it! And then there is food to eat--wonderful varieties of fruits and vegetables and grains! Let's not forget those "unnecessary" gifts, things like the lovely variety of flowers that grace our earth, and a sweet kitten's purr.
What a loving God and Creator we have! Let's clap our hands and shout our praises to Him!
