His foundation is in the holy mountains.
2 The Lord loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
3 Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.
4 I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there.
5 And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her.
6 The Lord shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah.
7 As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee.
A song for the sons of Korah, those “Longing for God.” The song, “Oh, how I want to be in that in that number…” resonates in my mind (from the black spiritual song “When the Saints Go Marching In”).
“The Lord loves the gates of Zion…glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God (v. 2,3)."
I think of the Beatitudes in Matthew 5, particularly verse 3, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Verse 8, Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Verse 12, Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven…Verse 14, Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. And verse 16, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Are you “poor in spirit, pure in heart?” Are you rejoicing? And are you letting your light shine bright? Now more than ever people are looking for truth. What will you stand up for?
O how I want to be in that number…when the Saints go marching in the gates!
